SANKOFA CONCEPT:  "Seneca Village Arts Societyis an imaginative collective of artists and creators from the long-forgotten community of SENECA VILLAGE— a small village in the borough of Manhattan in New York City, founded by free black people. Seneca Village existed from 1825 through 1857, when it was destroyed for the construction of Central Park.


We are honoring the people that helped to show the possibilites of economic and artistic freedom, long before the Harlem Renaissance, however fleeting their moment may have been.
